Leca is initial letters for : Light Expanded Clay Aggregate.
Leca consists of small, lightweight, bloated particles of burnt clay.The thousands of small, air-filled cavities give Leca its strength and thermal insulation properties.
The base material is plastic clay which is extensively pretreated and then heated and expanded in a rotary kiln. Finally, the product is burned at 1100 °C to form the finished Leca product.
Materials used for produce LECA:
Clay
Fly ash
Shale stone
Sewage sludge
But for clay and fly ash, need to pelletilized in to solid, and than calcination in kiln.

Final pellet size: 10-15mm
After calcination: 15-30mm
Lightweight pebbles allows it to absorb 40% of its weight in water and also allows for efficient evaporation to help maintain a constant humidity level.
LECA is a chemically-inert medium with a neutral pH, and is reusable, clean, and odorless.
